I tried this several times. First I do this:

I erase my whole hard drive. Next I reinstall my Windows Software.

I add all the updates to the Antivirus and Spyware and Firewall Software, I installed, with all the Windows Updates, I installed with my Cox Cable connection with my Cable Modem. How do I remove this exploit, no antispyware will remove it, I can block atdmt.com with my router, yet it does not stop this exploit.

I can download many things from the internet with my Cable Modem, I can download from Microsoft Download Center, always the same.

Cox Cable with my cable modem will not download Microsoft Download Center. If I watch what it tries to do, I see http://switch.atdmt.com/action/..., then there is a stall, next Internet Explorer 6 or 7 or Firefox, or some other, I get error, dns error, and writes, can not find server.

If I use the DSL connection, with a wireless, then switch to Cable, by using a wireless connection, I can download from Cable for several minute

and ran Internet Explorer, well that's your own fault, not Cox, run Firefox instead, also you do not mention what firewall you are using ( prefrable a router ), what anti adware or spyware software you are using... i ma suspecting it's not spybot and adaware and AVG free for the virus protection.

Torrent download acting weird?

I'm using BitComet to download a certain 3GB file. Now I have reached 99.7% and it is taking absolute ages to complete the download. The weird thing is that it did not stop downloading or that it can't find any seeders. To the contrary, it is claiming to be downloading at 100kB/s and it is estimating that the download will be finished in 2 minutes however it has been "faking it" like this for a good two days now (took 2 days to go from 99.6% to 99.7%). Does anyone have a clue what is happening?

not completely sure, but i have heard that sometimes fake copies of the "file" you are downloading are place on torrent websites, possibly by the MPAA or other organizations to discourage attempts to download pirated versions of this "file"... no need to worry. although it's a big bummer that you're download is crawling.... chances are that if the file actually finished, you would be left with a no video, or corrupted audio or malfunctioning software or something. baiscally even if the file finished downloading it is unlikely it would actually work. maybe search around for a similar copy. try using www.btjunkie.org to locate torrents. hope this helps...

i use yahoo 7 and windows 98, though i already have some version of the flash player installed , i am not able to use yahoo audibles or play yahoo games, whenever i do so it says…plz install the latest version of flash player. when i goto the macromedia website its says sorry no flash player found compatible to your platform or browser(i use netscape 7.2) and then when i go to the table and match the platform, browser, etc…and start the download , it gets added to my download manager but does not start the download, instaed says the download has finished, upon launching the file it says download failed. i tried the same through Interner explorer(version 6) yet the problem remains.i also use internet download manager and faced the same problems with it too while downloading.i have no proxy or firewall.and my internet speed is 32 kbps broadband.I use netscape 7.2 as my defaul browser, plus i have IE version 6 and firefox version 2. and the same problem persists with firefox too.

For the past 2 day's I have tried just about every solution posted in this forum. I believe I have found a solution that just might work for a large percentage of the viewers. I can't remember whose instructions these were. I copied and pasted and then proceeded as instructed.

Step 1.

Using the SubInAcL tool from Microsoft to fix permission issues in the registry has solved installation errors for several products including Flash Player.

The following solution involves the Windows System Registry. Editing or manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system damage which may require reinstallation of the operating system. If you are not comfortable editing the registry, then take your system to a professional. If you choose to proceed, then it is essential that you create a complete system backup and a Windows System Restore Point before proceeding. Adobe Systems cannot be held responsible for damage resulting from this information.

You must have administrator privileges to successfully complete these instructions.

1. Follow the instructions to download and install the subinacl tool from Microsoft here.

2. Use a text editor to create a file and name it reset.cmd. Save the reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools folder.

3. Copy and paste the following content into the reset.cmd file. Then save and close the file.

I took GOLLUX's advice and went to Q313222 from Microsoft and followed this instruction:

To reset your operating system back to original installation default security settings: 1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.

2. Type secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose, and then press ENTER. You receive a "Task is completed" message, and a warning message that something could not be done. You can safely ignore this message. For more information about this message, view the %windir%\Security\Logs\Scesrv.log file.

If I turn on the computer again and start the download again will the download start from the point where I left off?

assuming you shut down utorrent correctly it will start exactly where you left off.

If you just shut your computer down with out exiting utorrent you may loose a little data, that will have to be re-downloaded.

I have orbitdownloader to download swf and flv files from the net, and swf and flv player (the free one ) by eltima software. I like the videos on expertvillage.com but I cannot download any files from it.

I mean everytime I download by orbit downloader it tells me the same thing about some swf files called medialoader, adplayer and expertvillage.skinbase.... Surely, I know it's impossible for all the videos have the same files to download, but I just try to download these to see what happens.

After I download them, I cannot open any of them on the player I mention above. Anybody knows what I can do?

we live in lakewood campgrounds myrtle beach south carolina and there is an outdoor pool and an indoor, a park, beach among other fun activities. there is also an arcade which includes Dance Dance Revolution. there is my favorite song, Daikenkai, on the song list. i wish to download it and i've been searching the web for hours looking for a downloadable file of Daikenkai. since i'm now ticked, i figured i would use yahoo answers to find out. i want to download daikenkai for FREE and i don't want to download a whole program just to download it. i don't want i website that only allows me to download it to an mp3 player. i just want to download the song.

Background: I have great luck with Limewire, and can download a film, at 130 kb a second or faster, in under 4 hours.

Totally different story with bitorrent downloading. The big joke is that the majority of files say "27 days" for projected download time, or something similarly absurd. I have managed to download two films to date from any bitorrent, and one took me two weeks of going on and getting a trickle download overnight, every night to complete.

Because of this, I have the distinct impression that bitorrents suck, and that Limewire is far better. Is there some obvious thing that I, as a newbie bitorrent user, may be missing?

Bittorrent can actually be very fast depending on the torrent. I would not give up on it yet. The problem is most likely that your router or firewall is blocking incoming connections and you are not able to upload data to other peers.

Go to your router setup, for information on this read your router manual, or just go to All Programs%26gt; Accessories%26gt; Command prompt and type "ipconfig" and enter the gateway number into your browser and use the username "admin" and password "admin".

Go to the port forwarding section and open the port (tcp and udp) that is necessary for your bittorrent program. You need to find out what ports your bittorrent program uses.

I suggest you get utorrent or azereus, which will indicate whether your router is configured correctly with color codes. Azereus has the best indicator in this regard with 2 circles on the bottom that will say "nat ok" etc.
Reply:Sometimes a firewall will get in the way of Bittorrent's normal operation. Turn the Windows firewall OFF. Your router's built-in firewall does a better job anyways. Also, you need to enable port forwarding on your router. Check your router's website for instructions on how to do this. Good luck!

Reply:I know what you mean. I think part of the problem is that there may be like only 10 copies of a file and like 50 people leeching and downloading the same thing which takes it longer to finish. That's part of it; another part is that if you're behind a firewall the firewall may be limiting access to ports that will enable faster downloads.

After you download the songs you want to transfer- enque them. Highlight them and save them all to a file in your my music folder.

Open windows media player and go to sync. just look for the file you just created. then click the songs you want to transfer and sync!

I was trying to download AVG spyware free and it said it would take 4 hours and 45 min to download. After about 1 hour 10 min a window popped up saying,unable to download selected items system timed out, then it shut down the page I was downloading it from. Now I'm not sure what it meant or how to make it so that I can download the free spyware which I need for school when I start Everest onlie in two weeks. Right now I don't have any spyware and my computer just keeps getting slower and slower and having more problems that I don't really know how to fix. I have a 3G HSDPA card with limited mb's for download. As soon as I connect to the internet, and even if I don't open internet explorer or my enail agent, after a few seconds it starts using up mb's by downloading something - just that I don't know what is downloading. Have tried to switch off all auto downloads, but some must still be running. Any trace tool I can download and use that will show me what is still set to download/update automatically? Thanks

The safest and best way to do that is by installing a good firewall. I am usin Zone Alarm now, but I won't say it's the best. The free solutions are an option too, but if you buy a firewall, you will be protected.

Basically a firewall is a gateway and it will only let through programs what you allow it too. It's the easyest way to block unwanted downloads. The downside of the firewall is that it might lock programs which you would like to give acces to, but with a good configuration you are well protected.

Where can I download Golden Sun: The Lost Age rom that WORKS? I downloaded a lot of different GBA emulators but still it doesnt work. Yes, I've downloaded one of this and it works in some emulators but still have a problem, like in VISUAL BOY ADVANCE, when i load this rom, it is too slow,not running at its normal speed, other emulators run in right speed but, having a problem in sounds. Some also get stucked. In NO$GBA, it always says GBA-ROM CRASHED. My conclusion is that the rom itslef has the problem not the emulators. So my next step is to download another rom that is not the same as the file/rom that i downloaded, this is its file name:0940 - Golden Sun - The Lost Age (UE), and now my wish is to find other websites wherein i can download a different file from this one but still Golden Sun The lost Age rom.if someone knows where to download this rom that WORKS, then im very thankful to you. Hey fellas, I'm downloading a 4GB torrent, but, I'm connected to 12 Seeds(out of 78 in the swarm) and 36 Peers(out of 256 in Swarm). Now I've limited up-loads to 20.0 KB/s and Downloads to No Limit, and my incoming port is open, I have Auto-speed plug-in running, but the download speed never reaally rises above 80 KB/s. I have a Cable 20MB/s internet connection, so what could I do to connect with more seeds/ peers or make the download faster, cause at this rate, it's gonna take AGES to download., I'm running Azureus Vuze as my BitTorrent client and the download's goin fine, and I'm not running anything else, browsers included, that's taking up the bandwidth, and it's 12 o'Clock midnight, so no-one will likely be downloadin much at this time. you can try downloading the torrent from somewhere else or maybe your isp is throttling download speeds so you may need to enable protocol encryption.

Every time I try to download a file, it won't work. The tab on Firefox will display the link to the file in the tab bar (e.g. http://www.pctools.com/mirror/rminstall.... and a completely blank web page. Internet Explorer is the same. I have Free Download Manager, but as soon as I use that, it will stop the download and say "Access Denied. Invalid User Name or Password", when I'm not connecting through a proxy and none of the sites require a password to download the files. I have run both AdAware and Spybot, but it still won't download.

Can anybody please help me with this?

Recently I've been trying to download stuff on Firefox it, but no download window will appear? I've been going to download.com and places like that... Why isn't it work? Can you help me please? I just started using internet download manger and i have a problem. When i try to download a .rar file lets say if it was 1 mb long , when i try to download it using idm it shows the .rar symbol (the books stacked on each other) for a second and then it changes to a blang rectenagle that is white and it say 15kbs. Is there a way to fix that.

P.S when i try to download something else like a zip file it thaks that over and does it perfectly , also when i try to download more than one .rar file it says something about "firefox doucment", as the file type.

Unable to download attachments?

've been trying to download attachments (size over 150kb) from my email to my computer. I never had a problem before, but now when I download the file is empty. In fact an attached file I downloaded with no problems 2 months ago, is now not downloading.

I've also tried uploading files of similar size to email (no problem there) and sending them to myself. When I do this, I find I cannot download the attachment from the email I sent myself.

Smaller attachments seem to download OK. Larger ones do not save onto my computer and the "file" is saved as a name only with oKb.

Help?

hi, i had the same problem last week not being able to download and open email attachments larger than 5ookb. my issue was within an old version of norton internet security which i had to re-install on my computer. when i un-installed it, i was able to download and open the attachments. i have installed mcafee security programs instead of the norton security programs. there may be other incompatibility issues related to the download problem. i've upgrade my computer with winxp pro sp2 along with all the window updates to get my computer update to date and i've also installed ie7. i hope this helps and give you some lead if you are still having the problem. o:-)

after the download click on the screen icon to open it up.

while in there click on windows.

then put checks next to the lil boxes on the left, then click on the cleanup feature on the right.

Whenever i try to download a large file from the internet (50 MB plus), it seems that nearly a quarter ways into the download, the download just STOPS, and i cant figure out how to start it again. It appears to still be downloading (i.e. the window is still on the screen), but it is clear that the download is not working. If you could tell me why this is and how to fix it, that would be greatly appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Ok well I recently reformatted the whole computer to a windows xp home and put a new 3 GB hard drive in..I know thats very bad but its temporarily untill I can get my new one wednesday..but before I formatted it I luckily backed all my files onto my friends 120 GB hardrive just in case..so now I have both hard drives in..I cant download anything on to my hard drive cause there is absolutely no disk space on mine at all...But when I try to install or download any on his hardrive even though theres more disk space left..it wont let me...a bunch of Errors alwayssss come up...and since i am forced to use internet explorer now when i try to download something else..it wont even let me!

i recently re-formatted my laptop and installed vista... tryd to re-download messenger and and it gets 5% complete and i get a "download of file has been cancelled or interrupted. file not completely downloaded" (abort) (retry) when i click abort says "could not open file C:/ProgramFiles/Yahoo/Installs/ymsgr8us.... ... didnt have this problem last time i downloaded it a year ago. i dont think vista is the problem but it wont work now that i have it so maybe it is. my dad says his home pc has the same problem. we both use ATT yahoo dail-up now and that is the only thing different with our computers other than vista .... where am i going wrong and do i need to download something b4 i download yahoo messy? hope someone answers this with a useful answer but ill take any suggestions

You might have a corrupt file in your Yahoo! Messenger directory. To fix the problem, you must manually delete the "Messenger" directory on your C: drive (default), then reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application.

All archives will be deleted if they are not copied. Copy them like this:

Close Yahoo! Messenger (if it is currently running).

Go to your Desktop and double-click "My Computer."

You probably have Quicktime as your default music player or something. Do you have Quicktime on your computer?

If so, open it up, click on Edit, click on Preferences, click on Quicktime Preferences. Under the File Types tab, uncheck MP3 and then click OK.

That should solve your problem.

The Server you were downloading from could of "Timed Out" this would drop the download, and the Download Managers, use a technique where they ping several different download sites, and download parts of the file from the different download sites, and when finished, it put's them together to make the file... Every friday i usually download torrents for tv show "lost" but whenever i download it, my download speed falls really low like 7kb/sec whereas whenever i download anything from limewire (not torrents) the download speed is normal.. like its on 60kb/sec. so i was just wondering why this happens and is there a way i could fix it. I use uTorrent client and near my download speed it has that icon saying "no incoming connections" .

This doesnt only happen with lost but some other tv shows i download too. My firewall is usually off. So could anyone please help me with my problem.

If you are using Opera it shows you "save it" and then choose your folder and click on save.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox just browse your folder and then save.

I'm on a webpage with several download links. I click on the first 2 download links, that starts downloading but when I click on the third download link it doesn't start downloading until one of the first 2 downloads finishes downloading. I'm using firefox and this happens on most webpages. Is there a way around this? Is this a universal problem or am I a loner on this?

**I have Firefox too. Some days it can be a pain. But to answer your ?, after you download hit the shrink button, it looks like a dash at top right of screen. Now on your desktop you should see little icons that were not there prior to your down load. Right click on them (I don't think it is left click) then click run as or open, I have had both. Then follow the instructions on screen. This process actually installs the program on your computer. Download just puts it there but nothing more. Install makes the program usable.

** Prior to installing be sure what you are are going to install has no virus on it. Depending on what you are installing it may have add ons that you can remove in your add/remove programs.

i had this same problem click on start and go to control panel then click on network connection once at the screen click on your active network connection and choose an option to the left called "repair connection" and wait till it completes also try resetting the modem by unplugging it from the wall for a few seconds and plugging it back in.

Vista download window won't go away!?

Whenever I download something the basic windows download dialog opens up and shows me the progress of my download. Well, the problem is that after it finishes downloading it always stays at 99% for about 3-4 minutes even though I can access the file and it shows up in the location I selected. And yes, this happens even when I check the "close dialog box when download is complete".

So my question is, why does this window not close when it's done downloading, or why does it take so long for it to close. Is this a fault in Vista?

My computer can only download files less than 9mbs and not more than that. i've tried using download manager or the save target as method it will show "the server replies that you dont have permission to download". I download the same files with diifferent computer and it works. What's the problem with my computer? Is there any way i can make it download larger files? By the my connection speed is 11.0mbps (excellent).

Hello, I previously asked this question but nothing helped.

I have 200gigs in my C drive.

I have Limewire send my downloads to my C drive, however, when I try to download very large files (around 900mb or so) Limewire wont download--it's not a source problem because many other users are downloading it as well.

My internet connection can handle downloading such big files but Limewire just wont execute the download.

However, if I look for smaller files (200mb) or so it downloads perfectly. Anyone know what the problem may be?

While downloading some movies using Firefox Browser and wireless connection , from some Websites having a load of problems. Often at completion find some are only partially downloaded and cut out somewhere during download.

Difficult to decide whats causing it as some sites download no problems, but others often cut out.

And why don't these Websites support continued download, as the PtoP sites like Emule etc.?

Every time movie download cut out, had to start all over again-very frustrating when , as in one case, movie was 98% downloaded!

Damn pain in the A**!!!!

Amazon mp3 download messed up on me, what do I do?

Besides contact customer service. I guess I will if all else fails. Was doing the pepsi bottle cap promotion and using the points to download a song. When I chose my song and cashed in my points, the download window appeared on my computer. It asked if I wanted to open the file up in amazon mp3 downloader or just download the file. I chose to download the file, but when I saw that I wasnt downloading an actual mp3 file, I cancelled. When I did Amazon showed that I downloaded my song, but I never did. I looked in their FAQs and they dont cover songs that didnt actually download. What can I do...is there a secret file somewhere on my computer?

I would keep trying to contact amazon. Personally, I never use itunes or amazon downloads because if your computer's hard drive fails, then you are out of luck and without music. The best way to get music is to buy used cds off of amazon or ebay. You will still end up paying about a dollar a song, but you'll get other songs that you may find you'll like. In regards to the pepsi promotion that you have, it sounds like you canceled the download before it finished, so the song is probably not on your hard drive.Good luck dealing with the big companies.

I have wireless internet (IEEE 802.11g USB Wireless LAN Adapter #4) Isn't 802.11g suppose to have a speed of 54mbps but i have 11mbps. My download speed is VERY slow. For other people it takes about 40 minutes to download this game called Audition. It took me 7 hours! I was downloading at a speed of around 45kbps. Torrent downloads download at like 0.1-10.0 kbps. The fastest recently was only around 45kbps. Also online videos take forever to load. Before I could just watch everything without waiting and my download speed was really fast but now everything is slow. Can someone tell me what the problem is and what I can do?

O.K, I'm in a MAJOR jam with this Sims 2 downloads from www.vitasims2.com:

No matter WHAT, WHAT WHAT wwWWWWHHHHAT I do:

A.) Opening and saving the files in My Documents, EA Games, Downloads

B.) Unzipping them from desktop to downloads folder

I can ONLY download a "collection" file and not the actual things. Collection files are about 8.86 KB. I get the collection file, but no items and there is no other button that will allow me to do so on the site. Anywho, I am getting BIG TIME frustrated, even the administration said: "All internet browsers aren;t the same and you need to download from internet explorer... "which made little to no sense because you can't download jack WITHOUT internet explorer. Anyone who is very familiar with Vita Sims, is there a "secret" button that allows you to download actual things and not just the file, because the collection file is in my game alright... except I just end up with a child's playbox or an urn instead.

What are you trying to download from the site? If it's clothes, you need to make sure you have meshes that go with the outfits, if they're needed.

If you are downloading an OBJECT you need to have the color enabler package, it says so on the site:

IMPORTANT: You must have Colour Enabler Packages-CEP

The CEP is linked on the site, wherever the file is needed.

Their site works just like other sites, click download, SAVE the file to your desktop, then unzip. They use Winrar for a lot of their files, so you'll have to use that to get some of the stuff to show up. Then, just put everything into your downloads foler. If you have all of the correct files and meshes and stuff, the files should show up with no problem.

Since you didn't specify what you were trying to download, you just said in your last sentence above "I just ended up with a child's playbox or an urn instead", that makes me believe you were trying to download an object and not clothes. Go back and do what I suggested above and see what happens. If that doesn't work, it's best to discuss it further wtih that site's admins and have them walk you through the download process.

I need spybot search and destroy, and adaware 2007 spyware killers but they wont download.. part way through i get 'setup files are corupted obtian a new copy' or ' can not download, server reset itself' or 'this is not a proper win32 application'

i can download other things (like virus protection),

my system is new with lots of space,

my virus scanners pick up nothing,

i am running xp

A few weeks ago, when I downloaded files from main sites, It usually downloaded at over 200KB/S. But recently when I download files from the same site its downloading at around 40KB/S, which is far to slow for my 2MB/S internet connection! What has gone wrong! And how do I get it downloading at the normal speed again? Thanks

well it depends on many many factors, whats running on your pc, eg if you have any spyware problems, the site itself if lots of people are downloading, the internet company running slow

I downloaded mugen and i have a couple questions about it don't worry its not how do you download characters!
*whistle* wow this is gonna take a while, ok first off...

1. to raise the size of the screen to fullscreen, go to your mugen.cfg file and scroll till you find a place called DirectX mode, there go a little bit down until it says DXmode, and it says windowed or something like that, delete windowed, and put in hardware instead, that makes mugen fullscreen, if you dont want fullscreen, just a bit bigger, i have plugins to help but i forgot where to get them, so sorry. anyways just save and there is a bigger window, or screen or whatever. :p

2. only 10 characters huh? if you see on youtube, people have cool health bars and cool fight and character select screens. not your usual blue blackish one that comes with mugen. A screenpack just changes how everything looks, i have mugen fighting jam, which is a pretty cool screenpack, i think that its the best one while others say EvE Battle is better but thats just me. just download a screenpack like mugen fighting jam,(search on youtube for links to it or go to http://www.mugenjet.achoo.jp/ and download there, and use Youtube as a guide to installing your screenpack (note you need to readd all of your characters into the new select.def file, not hard but still takes time if you got lots of characters.)

3. Controls-- if its too hard, too bad, you gotta get used to it, i did and now i know almost all of my character specials and moves, so keep on playing.

4. Stages, now you download a stage and extract it, then it has 2 files, a .def and a .sff i think, get both and put them both into the stages folder. then go to your select.def file and go to the bottom or wherever it says stages or something like that. there type in stages/(the name of the stage).def

for example: stages/fireback.def or stages/banana.def

simple as that. hopefully that helps.

I'm using BitComet. I was downloading a couple files in a single torrent but suddenly I needed more space so I stopped the download and moved all the files to other disk... So then I wanted to resume download so I chose a directory where I moved those files (e.g. "D:\torrent downloads\_name of torrent_\" but instead of resuming it started a new download in "D:\torrent downloads\_name of torrent_\_name of torrent_" so then I moved it back to original place and chose a original destination but it left me with 0% completed... it's still downloading and it hasn't realy downloaded anything from the files that are already downloaded... So does that mean it's gonna be OK??? Or should I download it again?

How can I resume torrent download?

There is no way to download any of those shows legally because they are all copywritten, and of course the downloads for sites like that take so long because they are going through your internets firewall and through your internet browser that isn't made for downloading huge files. The closest thing to what you want is online movie viewing sites that are perfectly legal because your simply viewing the content that others have posted and not downloading it. So the ultimate viewing site is the first link ovguide, the second runner up is tv-links which is featured in ovguide, hope they help.

My download where fine. It took like 1 minute just to download 10MB file. But now it takes like 20 minutes. All the computers in my house is like this. It's a very long story and I'd really appreciate it if you could help.

Okay ill start at the begining.

A few weeks ago for some reason my Adobe Flash 9 and Active X got deleted. Im not sure how.

Anyway i tried to re-download them but nothing happens. When i try to download Adobe Flash theres meant to be an image to show that its downloading but it doesnt appear.

I tried again and a pop up came up, like when you usually download something. But it stays at 0%.

If anyone knwows why i cant download Active X or Flash pleeeeease help. It means i cant listen to music or watch youtube videos. I will be very grateful if anyone could help.

Lets try the easy fix 1st:

Open Internet Explorer, select Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab, scroll down to Security settings. Make sure there are check marks in these 2 entries:

Allow active content to run in files on My Computer

Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid

Select Apply or OK and reboot your browser.

Please place in additional details if the above steps worked. The next 2 options are not as pretty, one is a BIOS flash, the other is a Operating System repair using your Vista CD.

Hi, I cant seem to download drivers,programs or software from the internet. When I go the companies webite and click download, the open/save window comes up, but no percentage of it is transferring and it remains static. I have tried open and save but nothing works. Ok -- Computer has been recently reformatted and now I need to put Java on it.

I tried to download java from java.com and sun.com and it refuses. I've tried on a total of 4 computers now, including having my friend try on hers. Everywhere I go on the internet that tells me I can download java from there will send me to a page that won't load. Always says "cannot find server" SO??? How the heck do I get java?

I thought maybe I could download limewire and get it from there, but, when downloading/installing limewire, it says that the java part of it failed. Grrrr.

When i try to download something off the internet and the download window comes up.

After i save it somewhere and then start downloading, 2 minutes later, out of no where the downloading stops and it gets stuck at any random %.

don't use the download interface from Windows Internet Explorer. if i want to download lots of files, i make a download list (plain text file of the urls) and use a client such as bpftp (see bpftp.com) -- it's an ftp client but also handles http. you can also google for download managers, there are several available.

Hi, I use a wireless internet at home. Lately, all my downloads have been too slow. For instance, I was downloading a video clip yesterday. It's only 4 MB, but the download took like 15 minutes. Normally, it would only take less than 5 minutes to download a movie file that big. I dont know whats going on. And also, while the file is downloading, it stops right in the middle or earlier saying it has completed downloading, when it's not. The Movie only plays for like half of how long it really is and then it stops. My wireless speed is 48.0 MBps. Can anyone help me?

Unable to download Google Earth Free Version 4 (Beta).?

I have been trying to download Free Beta version 4 of Google Earth released early this week on a dial up network. Dowload box opens, download starts, showing that total download size is 13 MB. However, on various occasions, download suddenly stops after downloading data ranging from 4 MB to 8.75 MB. Installation from downloaded data fails. I have unsuccessfully tried download half a dozen times. What could be possible cause? I have removed earlier version of Google Earth (Version 3) from desktop.

It maybe because of the Dial-Up Connection. It might be going so slow that windows thinks that its jsut not going and it cancels the request and give you some stupid error. I had that problem when I used to be on that horribly super slow dial up conenciton.

hi i did a speed test for my internet speeds and it came back with a result with a download speed of 256kbps (so 32 kB/s).

I use uTorrent for downloading but never really pass a speed of more then 27 kB/s, what should be the setting for a 256kbps speed in uTorrent that i should use?

Also if you have a 256kbps download speed what is the fastest download speed you have reached when downloading a torrent?

Direct download speed is different from torrent download speeds. While direct download speed doesnot depend on your upload speed, torrent download speeds depends on how fast you can upload, because the faster the upload to someone, the faster he will upload to you(i.e you downloading).

I would say 27kbps in 256kbps is pretty decent. Try during the off peak hours and you may get some increase in the download spead.

HI i use windows vista and have utorrent and i've had this problem recently

when i go to any torrent site to download anything i click the download this torrent button and then my downloads window comes up and i see the download bar come up about a third or so and the it says C:\user\HOUSTO~1AppData\Local\temp\Harol... and Kumar go to white castle (2004) [site name here].torrent could not be opened, beacause an unknown error occured

There's multiple reasons. At least one should apply to you:

1: You are accessing torrent from behind a router and you haven't opened up your port. Goto www.portforward.com for more details.

2: Your internet connection isn't fast enough. Goto www.speedtest.net to test your connection.

3: You have encrypted your connection, and/or asked for only encrypted swarm to share with you. Check out the Tools -%26gt; Options part of your torrent client.

4: Your ISP is shaping your traffic. It is a common practise with ISPs in the US. Comcast is the worst culprit, others aren't any better.
Reply:it all depends on how fast your connection is...how many seeders and leachers you're connected to..if you have the settings on bitcomet set right...your upload speed should be set to 80% of you rated download speed...and it also depends on your seeding ratio...if you're one of those that download something and never seed it back, your download speeds will suffer for it....always seed at least 150% back to keep up good speeds

I use a 256 Kbps (100 Mbps Modem) connection and my default Web browser is Mozilla Firefox 2. The download speed used to be HOPELESS - around 15 Kbps for all-sized downloads. But then I downloaded the DownThemAll! extension for my Firefox which was supposed to increase my download speed by 400%. And it kinda did, mostly for files sized at around 20 Megabytes. Most of the time, the higher the size of the download was, the higher the download speed used to be. Once, it even reached 196 kbps!!! Yes, that's right, 196 kbps on a 256 kbps connection! But then, I tried to download files with a size larger than 50 MB, in fact larger than 300 MB(games!). But, instead of increasing, the download speed decreases to an extremely low level!!! It becomes about 5 kbps ONLY!!! Compare THAT to 196 kbps!!! And the DownThemAll! Manager says its gonna take 10 HOURS to download that file!!!

So, what should I do to increase the download speed? DownThemAll! DECREASES my downlaoad speed by 400%!!!

Reply:Most likely, the file you were trying to downlaod had only 1 source. Where download managers like "Flashget" grab different sections of the same file from multiple sources on the internet causeing speeds to increase.

You really cant do much in that case b/c basically your downlaod speeds are affected by how fast your modem can download, and how fast the server can output that file to you over the internet.

If you downlaod speed is saying it is donwlaoding a file faster than your modem supports, chances are that it is a fast download-but is reporting an incorrect downlaod speed.

I can make a 56k modem say it is downloading at 114kbps just by tinkering with settings...but it is a lie.

My computer is having trouble downloading Flash Player. As a matter of fact, it just freezes whenever I try to download something (not neccessarily Flash Player).

I have another computer that downloads just fine. It is on a home network, so usually I just download on that computer, transfer the file and then execute it on the one that doesn't download.

In the case of Flash Player, you have to do some kind of auto-install and, of course, it doesn't work. I am not sure if I can't download the ActiveX control or something else. I tried for hours trying to find an executeable, but Macromedia doesn't offer one.

So I have 2 questions:

- Is there an executeable for Flash Player that I can download using my other computer?

- How can I solve my downloading problem?

You need a Bit torrent client on your PC like Utorrent to download the torrent files. Save the 'filename.torrent' to your desktop then open it with your torrent client, the file should download. I have no idea what "download manager" you put on your computer, so I can't tell you anything except that mine downloads everything I try to download, with a few exceptions. Some websites, Microsoft, download.com and others, do not allow download managers. You can only try to download and if the manager takes it, then it does, and should speed up your downloading experience.
Reply:Usually, download manager performs downloading based on the url you supply and go grab the file by http protocol. Download go faster is BS as technology is not support and bandwidth has fixed limit.

Check around to see how a file is transfered by http protocol and you would find those BS from download manager.

Hello!

I was wondering if download accelerators really deserve to be called so! I have used them all - Download Accelerator Plus, Flashget, Free Download Manager et cetera - and none of them managed to accelerate my download speeds at all! All they could be used for is to schedule downloads and resume them, a facility that is not available in the download managers of all the browsers that I have used and which are, in all other aspects, just as good.

Have I had unusually bad experiences or these softwares are really worthless? What do you think?

Reply:If you download at speeds lower than the maximum bandwidth you have, and the site is capable of resuming, a DA will start more than one piece of the file at once, so you'll be filling your bandwidth and downloading faster. If the site isn't capable of resuming, it won't work and you'll still get a single stream. If you're downloading at your full bandwidth already (a good connection to the site), you can't download any faster.

Most sites these days are capable of resuming, and most connections don't run at full bandwidth, so DAs speed up downloads for most people.

If only one server is serving the file, there will be no speed. If there is more than one server, these tools will download the parts from every server, and will combine them later.

Then it also depends on bandwidth also. I mean if server is sending the file at its full bandwidth, you won't see any fastness. IMHO they are useful occasionally.

Everytime I try to download something from the internet it only downloads a certain percentage of the file at least 50%. Then I try to download it again but this time it downloads it a bit more at least 57%. So I have to keep closing it and re-downloading a couple of times untill it fully downloads. Can anyone tell me why it does this and how I can fix it?
