ADSL download problem?

i have a 2mbps connection adsl and thats no problem.the problem is when i download anything for any website my download stalls.like it downloads 300-500kb at a time and then it pauses for 3-4 seconds and again downloads that much and pauses.it keeps happening till the download gets over.I dont think its a problem with my o/s as i just re-formatted my comp. with xp.i had this problem since months.but there is one website%26lt;the isp's own website%26gt; where it downloads at full speed uninterrupted at 240-280kbps.What do you think is the problem.urgent help required as it is bugging and it takes very long just to download a 2-3mb file.I have an unbranded modem.but my network card is some realtek.do you think i have to change the modem/cables/wires/network card? or is it a problem with the isp.

What you are using is 1 complete telephone trunk line (T1) of 24 channels and 7 more single channels. That should get you in the range of 250KBytes/s when you have a straight download from your server.





Sounds like those channels are getting buffered somewhere along the hops. Go to http://internetfrog.com and see what your actual speed is over the internet and you'll have some info to talk to the techs about.





Remember not to get your b and B mixed up. Speeds are measured in bits (small b) but files are measured in Bytes (capitol B). Divide the little b's by 8 to get the big B's. You'll actually be closer to the mark if you divide by 10. Just move the decimal point.

Go to Task Manager, Networking Tab and watch the network activity. If a download from different sites shows the same recurring pattern, then your ISP has his hand on the throttle
Reply:most isp,s are having tighter cut off points for heavy usage,by next year i should imagine more charges and less free content will come to be the norm.Signs of progress,many users are having trouble. With massive downloading of music onto 500 gb discs,it is only a matter of time before it is stopped,grabbing more than anyone else has its costs and penalties.If you are grabbing more time and usage than others you will be penalised,these people are doing it to themselves ,without realising it.
