I have downloaded excel spreadsheets for years, now all of a sudden when I try to download an excel spreadsheet, it won't download. I can tell it to download and then it asks whether to Open or Save, when I click either one of these buttons, it then goes to the Download screen and just says "Getting File Info". But it never gets it. I can still down load pdf files, MS Word documents, jpgs, but not Excel spreadsheets. If I send it to an old AOL account, I can download it without any probem.
I welcome all suggestions. Thank you in advance for responding to my question.
When downloading Excel, I am getting hung up on the Download screen?
Are these Excel 2007 files, by chance? I've had problems with the new file types on some servers. Typically, the problem is that the server MIME types aren't set correctly, so the server (or browser) doesn't recognize the file type.
That probably isn't your problem, but it is worth mentioning.

Reply:Which browser are you using to download? Is it IE or Firefox, Opera? I have trouble downloading certain file types in Firefox, but am able to download easily in IE. The reverse is true for different files, I can in Firefox but not IE.
As you use to be able to download Excel files easily, and now are experiencing trouble, your IE installation may have become corrupt. It would be a good idea to remove this instance, perform a cleanup after the removal, with a utility such as CCleaner, then download and install an new instance of Internet Explorer. You can also remove Internet Explorer using CCleaner too as it possesses a software removal utility, which actually works better than the Windows software removal utilities.

You also may have an add-on within your browser causing this issue. Load an instance of your browser without add-ons. For Internet Explorer you would need to go into Internet Options, then disable all add-ons, close and reopen and see if you successfully download the excel sheet. If so, add back the add-ons one by one until you replicate the issue. Remove or replace the faulty add-on. In Firefox open an instance in Safe Mode, which you do by clicking that option in the Programs list. See if you can download without issue and if so you will need to disable all add-ons in Normal Mode to locate the faulty add-on the same as in IE.
Good luck and have a nice day.
